Once in a lifetime opportunity!

Once in a while something comes along which is truly unique – that’s exactly what happened when we were approached by The Weavers Factory to print some beautiful greeting cards and gift wrap for their wonderful art gallery, which has no ordinary story behind it!

A friend’s dying wish

Julian Bovis and Nigel Durkan, close neighbours of artist Joan Charnley, received the stunning news shortly after their beloved friend’s funeral, that she had left them her home – a tall, Georgian listed building in Uppermill, on the edge of Saddleworth Moor, outside Manchester. Joan’s dying wish was that they convert her home into an ‘art house’ as she so quaintly put it, and the fabulous duo whom she had dubbed ‘the boys’ set to work doing exactly that.

Bringing an artist’s dream to life

Shortly after her funeral ‘the boys’ busied themselves bringing Joan’s dream to life. They grafted for 2 whole years to convert the house into The Weavers Factory; the end result is an absolute gem – stylishly quirky and in keeping with Joan’s eccentricity. In addition to the various elegant gallery spaces there’s a tea bar, a shop, a beautiful garden and in what was the kitchen, an antique grocer’s counter with cards and wrapping paper reproducing Joan’s amazing sketches.

The perfect print partner

Our Sales Director, Sharon Siddle had the pleasure of meeting Nigel Durkan in 2018 after a phone call during which he completely captivated her with his story. Being an art lover herself, Sharon was determined to be the print partner for this wonderful project.  After putting our proposal to ‘the boys’, they called us and to our delight, we’d won the contract to produce their beautiful cards and wrapping paper which would bring Joan’s art to life – to say we were thrilled is an absolute understatement!  Whilst we weren’t the cheapest supplier, Nigel knew we totally got what they wanted to achieve, and they could trust us to produce the finest quality print to do Joan’s fantastic art justice.

“Printoff have been an amazing company to deal with from the word go. One of their sales representatives Sharon came out to see us and we couldn’t believe how knowledgeable, friendly and personable she was – it made a real difference in deciding which print company to use. With so many cheap printers online it was a relief to find a real person who we could talk to, and also someone who knew their business back to front and could make suggestions. Print is a new world to us, so guidance was imperative and Sharon delivered in spades. Our biggest surprise was the cost, it was only slightly more expensive than online companies and for the extra you get all that customer support and guidance. They also use sustainable print technology, which was important to us. Highly recommended. Thanks Printoff”

Sharon says: “The cards and wrap look stunning, if Joan is looking down on ‘the boys’ I’m sure she couldn’t be prouder of what they’ve achieved”

The gallery opens on 6th April and we can’t wait for the launch party! https://www.weaversfactory.co.uk/home
